TESCOM Boss Charges Principals on Commitment to Duty

The Chairman of the Osun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Comrade Temitope Mustapha Adeyemi, has urged the newly appointed principals of secondary schools in the state to be more committed and dedicated to their duties. He warned them against truancy and dereliction of duties.
The Chairman gave this charge during the induction programme organized by the commission for the newly appointed principals of secondary schools across the state.
According to the Chairman, “You are expected to complement the efforts of the Executive Governor of the State, His Excellency Asiwaju Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, who has given you the opportunity to be elevated to the status of Principals, which is the peak of your career.”
He described the roles and responsibilities of a principal as multifaceted, imploring them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethics as they embark on this new journey in leadership.
He also reiterated the commission’s commitment to supporting them by providing guidance, resources, and training to enhance their leadership capacity.
Speaking at the program, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Muritala Jimoh, urged the principals to develop a strong leadership spirit in carrying out their duties. He emphasized that they should focus on academic excellence rather than being money conscious in their respective schools.
Earlier in her address, the Executive Secretary of TESCOM, Mrs. Olufunke Fabusuyi, advised the new principals to collaborate with their experienced superiors who can guide them effectively. She emphasized the importance of record-keeping, highlighting essential records such as lesson notes, diaries, registers, and inspection books that should be properly maintained by school principals.
Also speaking at the program, the guest lecturer, former Tutor General Permanent Secretary, Mr. Kola Buhari, described a principal as a communicator and guidance counselor whose roles include division of work, authority and responsibilities, human relations, and teachers’ reinforcement, among others.
In their separate goodwill messages, the State NUT Chairman, Mr. Muritala Fatade, and the State ANCOPPS President, Mrs. Esther Awoyemi, urged the new principals to ensure they impart excellent knowledge to their students to build successful future leaders.
