Choose Careers with Purpose, MMPN Tells Students
The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Ondo State chapter, has charged students to approach career choices with purpose, right intention, and strong moral values, stressing that careers should go beyond the pursuit of wealth.
The career talk, held at MSSN Islamic Model College (Formerly Albirr) Akure, the Ondo State capital, was delivered by the State Chairman of the association, Mr. Jubril Bada, as part of efforts to guide young Muslims on making informed and value-driven career decisions.
Speaking to the students, Bada explained that in Islam, a career is not merely a means of earning income but also a platform to serve Allah and humanity.
He emphasised that any lawful profession—whether medicine, teaching, engineering, law, or entrepreneurship—can become an act of worship when pursued with the right intention (niyyah).
According to him, students should ensure that their career choices are guided by the desire to earn halal (lawful) income, contribute positively to society, and seek the pleasure of Allah.
He noted that professions aligned with Islamic principles elevate everyday work to ibadah.
The MMPN chairman also urged students to understand themselves, noting that not everyone is meant to follow the same path.
He encouraged them to reflect on their interests, strengths, and natural talents, stressing that Allah has endowed every individual with unique abilities that must be discovered and nurtured.
Highlighting the importance of education, Bada reminded the students that success cannot be achieved without knowledge.
He called on them to take their studies seriously by attending classes, completing assignments, and avoiding bad company and laziness.
He referenced the saying of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that seeking knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim.
On character, he warned against shortcuts and unethical practices, stressing that integrity (amanah), excellence (ihsan), discipline, and honesty are essential qualities of a true Muslim professional.
Bada further assured the students that modern careers remain open to Muslims, listing fields such as healthcare, engineering, technology, law, public service, business, media, ICT, and creative industries.
He emphasised that success in the modern world does not require abandoning one’s faith.
In his concluding remarks, the MMPN chairman reminded the students that their future begins with their present attitudes, discipline, and choices.
He urged them to work hard, remain focused, trust in Allah, and never stop learning.
He prayed for Allah’s guidance for the students, asking that they be led into careers that would benefit them, their families, and the wider Muslim Ummah.
Earlier in his welcome address,the Principal of the MSSN Islamic Model College (Formerly Albirr) in Akure, Mallam Mustapha appreciated the members of the MMPN for choosing the school to deliver the career talk programme, noting that it would have a great impacts on the studies and lives of the students.
He appealed to the association not to hesitate in taking the career talk to other schools so they could also benefit from the programme.
