
The League of Imams of Akure land and its environ has appealed to the Ondo state Governor, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to appoint Chief Jamiu Ekungba as his Deputy.
The Islamic Clerics made the appeal in a letter titled; “Congratulatory message to Mr. Governor”, a copy of which was made available to the media.
In the letter signed by its Chairman and General asecretary, Imam Shayk Raji Keuyemi and Imam Qamarudeen Bintinlaye stated that the League of Imams of Akure land and its environ represent the leadership of the Muslim Community stratified into over 500 mosques.
“Looking at the new dawn the state has found itself, we feel this is a great opportunity for the political leadership of the state to right the wrongs meted on the Muslims.
” During the administration of the late Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, CON, Muslims were grossly and strategically marginalized to the level that we were not in number 1 to 7 of the cardinal elected and appointees of Ondo State Government,”
According to the letter, the Muslim Community of Akure Kingdom crave his Excellency’s indulgence to consider one of their great political figure, High Chief Jamiu Afolabi Ekungba as your Deputy and the Deputy Governor of Ondo State.
It stated that Ekungba is a faithful Muslim, who is an household name within the Muslim Community of Ondo State, a Duke in Owo Kingdom and a member of the Board of Trustee of the APC.
“His nomination as the Deputy Governor of our dearest Sunshine State will not only serve as a compensation to the people of Owo for the loss of their illustrious son, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN, CON, It will also ensure inclusiveness of Muslim in your government and will also boost your image and popularity within the Muslim faithful in the state,”
” These, we strongly believe you and your party will surely need to cross the 2024 Governorship election huddles,” the letter read.
The league of Imams who prayed that God grant the governor the foresight to see the wisdom and necessity in their request had earlier, felicitated with the Governor on his swearing-in and taken over of the mantle of leadership as the executive Governor of the sunshine state and commiserated with him on the death of Arakunrin Odunayo Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, CON.
His death, they noted, was a great loss to the country at large as they prayed for God to grant his family and the state, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
They however, prayed that Almighty God Shall uphold the Governor and grant him unprecedented achievements which will make the state the cynosure and envy of all states.
