Tinubu appoints 39-year-old Prof Segun Aina as new JAMB registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second and final tenure ends on July 31, 2026.

Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July, is a renowned academic and systems engineering expert with extensive experience in examination administration, digital infrastructure, and public sector reform.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a doctorate in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom.

He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina began his association with JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year, where he gained firsthand experience in national admissions processes and data management systems.

The presidency said the exposure shaped his long-standing contributions to examination reform and institutional systems optimisation.

With over 15 years of professional experience, Aina has built a career at the intersection of technology, governance, and institutional transformation, advising federal and state governments on digital transition, systems design, and operational reform.

At the age of 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and is now set to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.

He has also served as consultant to major examination bodies, including NECO, NABTEB, and several state ministries of education, providing expertise in ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process management.

Professor Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new registrar would deploy his experience and technical expertise to consolidate on the achievements recorded by his predecessor and further reposition JAMB for greater efficiency and innovation.
