… Charges Gov over 35% affirmative slots for women

National Coordinator of a renowned socio political group; “Nothing Without Women” and a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ondo State, Alhaja (Hon) F. I Gidado, has appealed to the State Governor, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to enforce the 35 percent Affirmative Action by appointing more qualified women into appointive positions.

This is just as she pleaded with the Governor who she described as a visionary leader whose quests for progress and development of the state
is evident in his recent initiatives, to set a new record by appointing a woman to fill the vacant Deputy Governor’s position.

Alhaja Gidado who is also the Iya Adinni of Akure land, made the call on Monday while fielding questions from a group of Journalists in Akure, the Ondo state capital

According to her; “There are many qualified, competent and credible women in Ondo Central and Northern Senatorial districts of the State who have what it takes to occupy the exalted position and contribute meaningfully to the development of the Sunshine State.

“Ondo State would be 48 years by April this year and it is very regrettable, that no woman had been given the opportunity to rule or deputise since the creation of the State.

“Even in the whole of the South West states, Ondo remains the only state where woman is yet to be considered for the position of Deputy Governor.

“As you are aware, Your Excellency, women’s political participation results in more tangible gains for democracy, including greater responsiveness to citizen needs, increased cooperation across party and ethnic lines, and engenders sustainable peace.

“In addition, women have the indissoluble gravitas to bring intelligent growth and development to policies that inspire family development and communication.

“Mr Governor, I want to appeal, that you break this age-long record and set a new one by appointing a woman as your Deputy and have your name written in Gold”, she appealed.

Alhaja (Hon) Gidado, however, called on women to always come out en-masse and participate in politics and governance, saying “We cannot stay indoor and be recognized.

“Our numerical strength is higher and we must endeavour to take advantage of it by actively participating in every electoral processes for more recognition in terms of appointive slots”, she advised.
