The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Ondo State Chapter has called for diversity and empowerment of the girl-child to promote gender equality.

The State chairperson of the association, Comrade Tola Gbadamosi made the call while delivering a lecture at a programme organized by the society of Women Accountants to commemorate the World International Women’s Day.

Gbadamosi, who also visited POWA, NLC as part of activities to celebrating the day, advocates for the need for women to embrace farming as women journalists have been trained in urban farming .

Delivering her lecture at the event, Gbadamosi underscored the strides made towards gender equality while emphasizing the pivotal roles of the media in amplifying women’s voices.

She said “Media involvement is a tool for women to contribute to public discourse and advocate for issues that matter to them.”

Gbadamosi highlighted the role of media houses in creating awareness and empowerment for women, urging them to make use of the media to get their voices heard.

While addressing members during the urban farming training to equip members with the necessary skills to cultivate crops in mitigating the impact of inflation on food prices, Gbadamosi urged women to be committed to ensure food stability in every member’s household .

In her reaction, the state Chairperson of the Society of Women Accountants, SWAN, Queen Mother Akinseye Blessing, emphasized the importance of education and awareness while highlighting the persistent barriers to women’s leadership,

“Initiatives such as mentorship programs and educational workshops are crucial in breaking down barriers and empowering women to reach their full potential,” she asserted.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abayomi Peter Oladipo, highlighted the importance of training a woman for national development.

The Commissioner pledged to prioritize the interests of women in law enforcement and beyond which he believed will further address the barriers to gender equality posed by cultural and religious norms.

Chairperson of POWA, Ondo State Chapter, Mrs. Elizabeth Abayomi, echoed the sentiment of celebration and empowerment, emphasizing the need for women’s inclusion in all aspects of society.

Elizabeth encouraged women to recognize their worth and support one another while advocating for equal opportunities in socio-economic and political spheres.

Speaking at the event, CSP Bukola Fasinmoye, underscored the vital role of women in nation-building, particularly in security matters.

Also, celebrating the World International Women’s Day, the Women Committe of the Nigeria Labour Congress, the Chairperson, Comrade Yemisi Musa emphasized the importance of women uplifting one another and discarding the harmful habit of self deprecation.

“This celebration is held every year. We come together and celebrate ourselves in different styles. Women should love themselves.

“They should stop the habit of pulling themselves down. We should support ourselves as women” she stressed.

The Resource person at the NAWOJ urban farming training , State Coordinator of Small Scale Women Farmers Organization of Nigeria SWOFON, Mrs. Grace Oyediji, commended NAWOJ for their proactive approach to address food security challenges.

Oyediji emphasized the importance of practical application of what they have learnt to make food available to curb hardship.
