The Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria, FOMWAN, has yesterday, began a three days massive continuous Voter registration sensitization tour at Ondo West local government Area in Ondo state.

The three days sensitization tour began at the Ondo Central Mosque, where the leadership of the association led by the state Amirah, Alhaja Medinat Omikunle deployed memeber’s to other jumaat service mosque within the local government area.

The jumaat mosque where members were deployed to includes: Masjid Sulaiman, Allahu Wahid mosque , Taqwa, Hausat Muslim community, Masjid As-sallam, Polic mosque and white mosque and Oke-Osum.

Other s are Oluwakemi Aruna, Ileoluwa mosque Adeyemi University and Ajiboro mosque respectively.

While deploying the delegates for the exercise within the local government areas, they were also to visit all the market places on Saturday for the house-to- house visitation on Saturday and also set to visit the churches on Sunday for the sensitization.

They equally educate residents of communities within the local government area which they agreed to embark on Monday to ensure that the whole of the local government are well informed about the continuous voter registration exercise which will begin on Monday May 27th , 2024 across Ondo state.

Speaking to the congregation shortly after the jumaat service at the central mosque in Ondo city, the FOMWAN State Chairperson of Community and Humanitarian Development Committee, Alhaja Rafat Momoh said continuous Voter registration was necessary because the State will be holding its Governorship election in November.

She said voters card is the access to the election which makes any voter eligible and to be able to exercise the right to vote for the candidate of their choice.

She said FOMWAN is opportuned to be among the selected 22 Civil Society organisation to carry an advocacy campaign to their designated local government area across the state for massive continuous Voter registration which commences on Monday.

She said the continuous Voter registration would be done for 10 days including the weekends starting from Monday , May 27,2024 at all the designated centers at the ward level as she called on the people to take advantage of it.

“The sensitization we are doing here within the local government is simultaneously being done in all other local government by different non governmental organisations in ensuring that everybody gets their voter registration card,” she stated.

While explaining those who were expected to go for the registration, Momoh said that they are those who do not have a voters card and are above the age of 18 years, those who have lost their cards, those who have relocated from their former abode or transfered to other places or those whose cards have been bored or cut and could not present such card during election for voting.

She called on those who are yet to collect their voters card to also do so within the period of the registration so that they are not deprived of the franchise during election.

In reaction, the Chief Imam of Ondo Central Mosque, Alhaji Bashir Alimi appreciated FOMWAN for coming to sensitize the congregation, praying that God will continue to bless and protect them in their endeavours.

Earlier, while addressing redeployed delegates for the exercise, said they would also extend their sensitization talk to the rural communities within the local government areas to avoid them from being disenfranchised .

Omikunle further informed members that they would also monitor the registration at the wards and to also adhere to the electoral officers instructions at the registration sites which would also have registration and security officers on ground.
