CVR : FOMWAN sensitizes villages in Ondo West
The Federation of Muslim Women’s Association’s in Nigeria, FOMWAN has stormed neighbouring villages within Lipakala and Laje communities in Ondo West local government area of Ondo state to sensitize them on the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration exercise.
The Association had earlier commenced sensitization programme within the local government since Friday May 24,2024 at various jumaat mosques around the community.
Members of the association moved to notable markets around the local government area on Saturday May 25th and proceeded to the Churches on Sunday May 26th to sensitize people on continuous Voters registration exercise.
The leadership of the Association also visited neighbouring villages on Monday 27th May 2024 having hinted that the grassroots are those who should get more enlightenment about the ongoing exercise.
From the major town at Lipakala close to city of Ondo, they drove through the 16 Miles deplorable road to Onasan 1 to sensitize the villagers on the importance of the Continuous Voters Registration exercise during the forthcoming State governorship election in November this year.
Discovering the poor state of the road, the leadership of the association began to stop over at every community for the sensitization before Olosan 1.
The FOMWAN State President, Alhaja Medinat Omikunle told the villagers that they were not visiting for religious purpose, but to come and sensitize them on Continuous Voters Registration.
She said that FOMWAN has sensitized all the mosques within Ondo West on Friday, all the market areas on Saturday and all the major churches on Sunday.
She added that the leadership of the association discovered that the locations visited were not the only ones within the local government areas which brought about the idea of taking the sensitization to the grassroots with the local government area.
She urged them to visit their ward assuring that INEC officials will be waiting for them to get them registered and captured for the production of their voters card which will make them eligible to vote during the Governorship election.
FOMWAN Chairperson of Community and Humanitarian Development Committee, Alhaja Rafat Momoh also informed them that the programme started on Monday May 27 and would end on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.
Momoh reeled out the various conditions for registration as she called on those who do not have a voters card and have attained the age of 18 to make themselves available for the exercise.
In addition, she added, that those whose cards are missing or has relocated from their original place of registration as well as those whose card got damaged for one reason or the other should equally go and register for a new one, but that they should let the officials know what happened to their previous cards.
She told them to beware of multiple registration or be ready to face the wrath of the law which indicates a year imprisonment or a fine of N100,000.
In their separate reactions, the Baale of Olosan, Chief Daso Akinbobola, the Oloja of Obu kekere and the Secretary of Olosan 1, Mr Akinsanmi Williams, expressed their displeasure on government’s inability to provide them with infrastructural development like good roads, portable water, electricity and schools even when the area serves as a viable revenue generation to boost the state economy.
According to them, the road that is in its deplorable condition was constructed during the administration of former governor Olusegun Mimiko, while the only school at Olosan 1 was built since 1955 and was demolished by the government who promised to build another one but left them in limbo.
“Politicians will visit us with lots of electoral promises and in the end, nothing would come from them”, Akinbobola lamented.
They also hinted that they have not seen any officer from the appropriate authority in regards to the ongoing continuous Voters registration which has commenced since Monday.
