The Vice Chancellor Borno State University (BOSU), Professor Umar Sandabe has said that his university will produce its first set of graduates by the end of this academic year.
He gave the assurance recently during the fourth matriculation ceremony of new students for the 2022/2023 academic session.
The Vice Chancellor, said he was excited about the rapid development that has taken place within the last four years adding that the institution commenced academic sessions during the 2019/2020 session with only 647 students in four faculties but has grown far bigger than the expectations of the founders.
The fourth matriculation, he pointed out, signifies growth and that the University now has students across all levels in various departments.
He disclosed that, the National University Commission (NUC) has given full accreditation to 28 programs out of the thirty presented, while two got interim accreditation in the ongoing accreditation exercise it conducted last year.
Sandabe said as the university prepares to graduate its pioneer students this year, all hands are on deck to ensure that BOSU produced men and women of valor that would excel in their respective field of studies and contribute positively to the growth and development of the state and the country at large.
Prof. Sandabe then advised the newly matriculated students to imbibe learning and reading culture, discipline themselves, and strive for excellence, and to avoid anti-social behaviours contrary to the expectations on campus.
Professor Umar Sandabe noted that the university is a citadel of learning and therefore immoral and unethical behaviours contrary to campus norms will not be tolerated by management.
On security, the VC maintained that adequate security measures are in place to ensure safety for all students regardless of where they are studying at any time.
Sandabe added that, the university provides
free shuttle bus service to encourage students to and from campus especially with the removal of petrol subsidy which has led to increase in transportation in the country.
The VC commended the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum whose commitment to the ideals and objectives of the university, is untiring and has made them to achieve most of their goals in a short time.
The University Registrar, Zanna Kashim administered the oaths on over 2,674 students at the ceremony which took place at the University’s main campus and witnessed by other management staff including the DVC Admin, Prof. Fanna Abdurrahman, DVC Academics Prof. Haruna Dlakwa.
Also present were the Chairman Governing Council, Dr Muhammadu Indimi, represented by a council member, Prof. Abubakar Mustapha, the VC University of Maiduguri, Prof. Aliyu Shugaba,
represented by DVC Admin, Prof. Muh’d Mele, the CMD UMTH Prof. Ahmed Ahijo represented by the Deputy CMAC (Research and Ethics) Prof. Faruk Baba, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Shettima Maina, Representative of the Ministry of Finance and Budget, District Head of Auno, Director/CEO Nigeria Arabic Village Ngala Prof. Ibrahim Muhammad and Representative of JAMB among others.
