Build Your Marriage on the Fear of Allah, Patience, and Prayer, Clergy Urges Couple

By Mariam Obabire

Couples have been advised to build their marriages on the fear of Allah, patience, and prayer in order to create a sustainable home.

Delivering his sermon at the Nikkah ceremony between Hajia Sherifat Sanni and Abdulquardri Hassan at the Owo Central Mosque recently, the Missioner of Owo and Ose Ansar-ud-Deen, Alhaji Bashar Moshaud, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the success of the event, noting that marriage is a sacred journey that must be approached with sincerity and divine consciousness.

Moshaud, who is also the Chief Imam of Isaoen Mosque in Owo, described marriage as a journey that no one can predict.

“Some people describe it as a black market, which shows how uncertain it can be,” he said.

The Imam highlighted three key principles that should guide couples in their marital life: the fear of Allah (taqwa), perseverance and tolerance, and the power of prayer.

He emphasised that the fear of Allah should be the foundation of every marriage.

“Whatever one wants to do, one must be conscious of Allah,” he said. “Ask yourself: is Allah pleased with this action? If a person is not conscious of Allah, then he or she is not a good Muslim.”

Secondly, he stressed the importance of perseverance and tolerance, reminding couples that differences are inevitable, even when both partners come from similar backgrounds.

“Marriage is about perseverance and tolerance,” he said. “You shouldn’t expect 100% perfection from your partner. Instead, work together to harmonise your differences.”

Thirdly, he spoke about the power of prayer, underlining the importance of spiritual support and seeking constant guidance from Allah.

“Only prayer can solve all problems,” he stated. “Pray to Allah to guide, build, and strengthen your relationship. Even with all the effort, success only comes from Allah.”

He concluded by praying for the newlyweds, asking Allah to shower His mercy upon them, guide them to the right path, and bless their union with peace and prosperity.

Similarly, the Deputy Chief Imam of Owo, Alhaji Abdurahuf Iwalesin Ijalagba, urged the wife to be submissive to her husband, and the husband to be tolerant of his wife and to continually teach her the tenets of the Islamic religion.

The event was well attended by family, friends, and members of the Owo community and beyond, all of whom listened intently to the Imam’s message, which was deeply rooted in Islamic principles and the realities of marriage.
