Stop aiding Gender Based Violence, NACOMYO warns Nigerians

Nigerians have been warned against aiding and albeiting Gender Base Violence, GBV crimes in the society.

The National Council of Muslim Youths Organisations ,NACOMYO Programme Officer for the intervention, Mr Ajayi Moshood gave the warning at a programmme of outreach on GBV held at Erinla community in Ondo West Local government area of Ondo state recently.

Moshood who spoke on the two anti-social behaviour of Gender Based Violence GBV and Human right abuse, educated participants on the legal implications of GBV crimes in the society.

According to him, the legal implication ranges from arrest of offenders and charging them to court depending on the gravity of the case or it could result to a fine of varying amount, jail sentence which may be life imprisonment or even death sentence.

The Call center Officer for Ondo West, Mrs. Yinka Bunmi observed that in most cases the neighbours usually have the opportunity to report violence cases when they are committed but do not act accordingly .

She reeled out several numbers including hers in cases of GBV which were distributed to participants at the event.

In her goodwill message, the State Project Officer for ATM Intervention, Mrs. Abereowo Jumoke, urged the community members to be on the lookout as she hinted that gender based violence cases are now very rampant.

The State co-ordinator of NACOMYO, Alhaji Alli Yekini implored the community members to always live together in peace as Islam abhors violence or oppression of ,any kind.

He charged community elders to always fight for justice and not to sweep any oppression under the carpet.

In his contribution,, the Arogbo of Erinla town, High Chief Salami Ojo appreciated and praised the sponsor of the intervention (GlobalFund) as well as all other stakeholders that are working on the project.

He advised the community members to be law abiding and vigilant expressing the need to revive the community health center of the town for better service delivery.

According to him, community efforts cannot be ruled out in supporting government property in their domain.
