September onslaught: Troops arrest 450 terrorists, free 180 hostages — DHQ
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has disclosed that no fewer than 450 terrorists were arrested, while 180 kidnap victims were rescued during security operations conducted across the country in September.
It added that 39 terrorists surrendered to troops within the month, even as assorted weapons and ammunition were recovered from the insurgents.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, disclosed this in a statement issued today.
Kangye explained that the operations were carried out under different joint task forces, including Operation Hadin Kai, Operation Fansan Yamma, Operation Enduring Peace, Operation Whirl Stroke, Operation Delta Safe, and Operation Udo Ka.
He noted that troops recovered 63 assorted arms, 4,475 rounds of ammunition, and 294 items, which included grenades, improvised explosive device materials, motorcycles, vehicles and handheld radios.
In addition, troops of Operation Delta Safe intercepted crude oil worth ₦112,175,220 from oil thieves and destroyed 41 illegal refining sites.
“The Armed Forces remain committed to transparency, accountability, and the lawful execution of all missions in accordance with international and domestic rules of engagement,” he said.
The defence spokesman also reaffirmed the military’s resolve to protect civilians, while ensuring the safety and welfare of its personnel.
