Say no to protest, Eko-Davies appeals to Ondo traders

Traders in Ondo State have been urged to shun the planned nationwide protest scheduled to take place from tomorrow, August 1, to August 10, 2024, throughout the federation.

Special Assistant, SA to the Ondo State Governor on Traders’ Affairs, Mrs. Bolade Eko-Davies, made the appeal in a statement she personally issued and made available to the media.

She said protest would not have any meaningful impact on the current situation, but could lead to destruction, which might ultimately set the state and country back among the committee of developing nations rather than progressing.

While noting that economic crises and hardships affect various countries around the world, Eko-Davies appealed to Nigerians and the people of Ondo State to be patient and address the situation logically through dialogue.

The Special Assistant highlighted that protests could disrupt the flow of commerce, causing losses to traders and businesses. She urged traders to consider the economic consequences of closing their shops or participating in demonstrations.

Eko-Davies encouraged traders and citizens to support constructive dialogue with the government rather than resorting to protests.

She stated that the current situation is a phase that will soon pass when the government’s policies begin to materialize.

According to her, the protest might be hijacked by unscrupulous individuals who do not have the country’s best interests at heart, leading to damages, looting, economic losses, anarchy, and loss of lives.

She however, reassured the public that government is aware of the challenges faced by Nigerians and is committed to implementing more policies that will alleviate economic hardships and appealed for patience as these measures take effect.
