S/West insecurity: Kwam 1 seeks united Yoruba front against kidnappers

… urges Sunday Igboho, Gani Adams’ intervention

Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, has called on prominent Yoruba leaders to play more active roles in addressing the growing insecurity in the South-West region.

In a video shared on his Instagram page on Friday, the veteran musician expressed concern over the rising wave of kidnappings and violent attacks across parts of the country.

Kwam 1 specifically urged Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Igboho and the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, not to leave the responsibility of tackling insecurity solely to President Bola Tinubu.

According to him, the increasing incidents of kidnapping and killings require a collective response involving political leaders, traditional institutions, security agencies and influential stakeholders across the region.

“The two of you, Sunday Igboho and Gani Adams, must not leave the President to handle this matter alone. It concerns all Nigerians and the Yoruba people.

The Yoruba are leading the country, and for things not to fall apart on our watch, Gani Adams and Igboho must rise, mobilise all the warriors, the Agbekoya and their troops to confront kidnapping and killings,” he said.

Kwam 1 called on influential figures across Ijebu, Ijesha, Ekiti, Ife, Egba and Lagos to unite against the growing insecurity, describing the trend as a disgrace to the region.

“Do not leave Tinubu alone to handle this. It concerns all of us. Kidnapping and killings are becoming a terrible pattern in this region, and this will not be tolerated. Igboho, call Gani Adams and all of you must move swiftly on this issue,” he added.

The singer further urged Sunday Igboho to respond to public calls for stronger action against criminal elements operating within the South-West, stressing that traditionalists and local security groups also have important roles to play.

“All Yoruba people are asking you to take decisive action, and everyone will support you. Let this problem of kidnapping and killings become a thing of the past.

Governors should mobilise local vigilantes, the police and the military to tackle this menace.
“We want the killings and kidnappings to end during the tenure of Asiwaju, my principal. We must speak with one voice.

Those with traditional knowledge should use it, security personnel should perform their duties, and everyone must contribute to stopping evil in the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, another Fuji musician, Abass Akande, popularly known as Obesere, has also appealed to President Tinubu to intensify efforts to tackle the nation’s security challenges.

In a separate video posted on Instagram on Thursday night, Obesere lamented the activities of kidnappers, terrorists, bandits and armed robbers, saying they have continued to create fear and uncertainty among Nigerians.

“Mr President, we have entrusted power to you; please use it to address this kidnapping crisis.

Criminals are taking advantage of the situation, and insecurity is affecting everyone. Help us find lasting solutions,” he said.

Obesere urged the Federal Government to take stronger measures to restore public confidence, protect lives and ensure Nigerians can move freely without fear.

“Please act so that your administration will be remembered for positive achievements and not insecurity.

Nigerians look up to your leadership and trust that stronger measures will be taken to restore peace, security and confidence across the country.

“May God grant you wisdom and strength as you lead our great nation towards peace, progress and prosperity,” he added.
