OSPHCDA charges NAWOJ on HPV sensitization
The Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency , OSPHCDA has called on the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ to sensitize people on the dangers of Human Papilloma Virus, HPV.
The Permanent Secretary, OSPHCDA , Dr Francis Akanbiemu made the call during an advocacy campaign to the Ondo state council leadership of the association in Akure the Ondo state capital.
Akanbiemu who was Dr Akanbiemu who was represented by the state director, disease control, Dr Victor Akinfesoye described HPV as the virus causing cancer of the cervix and the second leading cause of death worldwide after breast cancer.
He disclosed that the state would commence vaccination against HPV for girls between ages of nine to fourteen years in May this year.
The medical expert noted that the agency is collaborating with NAWOJ for effective sensitization about the vaccine and to dispel the myths around the vaccine.
Earlier in a remark , NAWOJ Chairperson, Comrade Tola Gbadamosi appreciated the agency for choosing the association among many other reputable organisation to work as a team saying that NAWOJ has always been a channel for reliable information and a voice to end Cancer.
Comrade Gbadamosi called on parents to make their children and wards available for the vaccine and avoid negative hearsays about Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine
The advocacy team who are also partners of the programme included, representatives of the world health Organisation, WHO , UNICEF and Clinton health access initiative
