The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has enjoined its officers and men and the general populace to complement the efforts of women in raising children that would confirm to societal norms in order to eradicate drug abuse in the society.

The Ondo State Commandant of the agency, Mr Raji Mumuni, stated this while playing host to members of the Child Protection Network who paid him a courtesy visit at the weekend in his office in Akure.

Mumuni said money alone does not train a child but that raising children that would make the parents proud depends more on instilling good morals and setting good examples by parents.

He urged parents to create time to be with their children adding that the physical presence of parents makes a lot of difference.

He expressed the readiness of his agency to partner with the Child Protection Network in order to help the CPN to fulfill its mandate and vision.

According to him, every member of the society is at risk by the acts of drug peddlers and abusers. He urged the populace to assist the agency by reporting unwholesome drug acts so as to safeguard the lives of the citizenry.

Reiterating that Cannabis was never legalised and has wreak havoc among both the consumers and sellers, he said drugs affect everybody including people who do not take it.

Earlier, the State Chairperson of Child Protection Network, Mrs Olabisi Omolona, had expressed dissatisfaction with the high rate of drug abuse among children, especially teenagers.

Omolona, who commended the good works of the NDLEA called for training of civil society organisations on signs and symptoms of drug abuse, adding that those trained would train other members of the society.

” Drug and in the past is rampant among adults, youths and male gender but it is now prevalent among both gender and children,” she laments.

She further made a case for the CSOs to oversee the establishment of Anti drug abuse clubs and sensitisation in schools as well as granting vulnerable children access to free rehabilitation.
