Aisha Ibrahim who is a senior staff of the Borno State ministry of information has emerged new national Chairperson of the Nigerian Association of women journalists (NAWOJ)

Comrade Aisha Ibrahim who is winning after two consecutive attempts is a graduate of mass communications from the University of Maiduguri.

In her acceptance speech, just after the election, she congratulated all nawojians for a successful election.

She further informed members that henceforth she should be addressed as National Chairperson against the former appellation of President which has been reserved solely for the NUJ president.

She said that all state chair persons will also be known as state coordinators and pledged the loyalty of the entire nawoj to the leadership of the Nigerian union of journalists NUJ led by President Chris Isiguzo.

The election was conducted during the 11th triennial delegates conference of nawoj held in Abuja over the weekend.

Comrade Aisha Ibrahim actually defeated the incumbent Ladi Bala with a total number of 498 against Bala’s 381 votes in a fiercely contested election which kept campaigners on ground and online on edge.

The National Chairperson has since been sworn into office even as she pledged to protect the interest of the women journalists while carrying out reforms that will uplift the NAWOJ to the next level.
