A renowned Muslim Cleric, Sheikh Shafi’i, has charged the APC-led administration at the centre to think outside the box and desist from unsustainable borrowings which could further worsen the economic situation of the country.

The Cleric lamented, that over a thousand naira in exchange for a dollar at the parallel market indicated that there is something wrong with the nation which must be corrected without delay.

He however tasked all Nigerians, irrespective of tribal, religious or political inclination to strive towards attaining spiritual rebirth on all fronts to steer the ship of the nation on the path of meaningful development.

Sheikh Dhikrullah Shafi’i made these known while delivering an independence lecture organised by the Muslim Congress, Ondo state chapter held at the Central Mosque in Akure, the state capital.

He also enjoined the Nigeria government to put in place a law to forbid political office holders from seeking medical tourism abroad where the best men and materials are readily available in the world class hospitals.

This, he noted will ensure the masses to be rest assured of getting medical attention that would solve health challenges at their doorsteps and at affordable costs.

These were Sheikh Dhikrullah submission of Sheikh Dhikrullah Shafi’i during the independence day lecture.

Sheikh Shafi’i who is the Grand Mufti , Conference of Islamic Organisations (CIO) in his lecture titled ” Towards National Stability, Growth and Prosperity” argued that the present situation whereby private hospitals are more reliable if not affordable than public health facilities came about simply because the rich and powerful few have alternative at their beck and call whenever they fall sick .

Shafi’i enumerated the functions of a responsive and responsible government to include provision of adequate security of lives and property, qualitative and compulsory education for all citizens and robust welfare package for the poor masses.

The scholar said it is quite pathetic that individuals who enjoyed free education up to the university level are now the same set of people making it a hell of an experience for average Nigerian parents to send their children to school .

The schooler emphasized on the need for Nigerians to reflect deeply on the essence of self – rule, observing that the country attained independence on peaceful and intellectually inclined agitation which he affirmed as enough reason for Nigerians to ensure that transition from one administration to another should be conducted in an atmosphere devoid of violence.

The cleric who recalled that nations like Algeria lost over one point five million souls to the confrontation with colonialists before attaining independence advised Nigerians to continue to employ the instrument of dialogue to settle all disputes .
