Law Commission begins environmental exercise for staff well-being and institutional efficiency
The Ondo State Law Commission has commenced a comprehensive Special Environmental Sanitation exercise aimed at improving staff well-being and enhancing institutional efficiency.
The exercise, which began recently at the Commission’s headquarters in Akure, was spearheaded by the newly appointed Administrative Secretary, Oloruntosin Ogunnowo Esq.
Mr Ogunnowo, who made a statement during the exercise, emphasised the direct link between a clean environment and productivity. He highlighted the necessity of the exercise for the health and comfortable living of the Commission’s personnel.
“As the new Administrative Secretary, I am committed to fulfilling the core mandate of this Commission,” Mr Ogunnowo stated. “To achieve this, we must first ensure a conducive and healthy working environment for our staff.”
He also used the opportunity to appeal for essential support, requesting infrastructural development for the Commission and the provision of adequate personnel to enable it to effectively discharge its mandates.
Mr Ogunnowo further elaborated on the vital role of the Commission in promoting accelerated socio-economic development through constant research and the development of the State’s laws. He explained that the Commission currently combines the mandates of two critical MDAs at the national level—namely the Law Reform Commission, Abuja, and the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies which include law review, revision, and reform. He also explained the revenue potential of the Commission, including funds accruable from the sale of volumes of Ondo State Laws, which are currently unavailable due to the non-production of additional sets since the initial ones were produced more than two decades ago.
The Administrative Secretary stated that aside from the Commission’s law reform mandate, it is important to note that the Commission is also a Law Resource Centre with a statutory mandate to train public officers in areas of law relevant to their specialisation, particularly administrative and customary laws of Ondo State.
Mr Ogunnowo added that the Commission has the mandate to promote the study of customary laws and provide training for Customary Court Judges within the State.
The Administrative Secretary expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for appointing the Chairman and Commission members, noting that these crucial appointments will significantly bolster the Commission’s capacity to work effectively and efficiently.
Barr. (Mrs) Lola Adeyemi, Director of Planning, Legal Research, and Library Services, commended the initiative. She described the cleaning exercise as unprecedented and applauded the management’s display of visible leadership, recommending that the exercise become a continuous practice.
