Ondo NAWOJ Celebrates Wives of Influential Men

The Ondo State chapter of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has celebrated the wives of some influential individuals in the state who have chosen to remain in their marriages and contribute positively to society.

The association noted that divorce cases are on the rise across the country, but some women continue to stand firm beside their husbands—often unseen, yet making significant contributions.

Chairperson of Ondo NAWOJ, Comrade Tola Gbadamosi, spoke on Thursday at the Dinner and Award Night marking the 2025 NAWOJ Week, held in Akure.

Gbadamosi described the event as an occasion for reflection, recognition, and renewed commitment to the values the association holds dear, both as women journalists and as a community.

She said Ondo NAWOJ had engaged in thought-provoking discussions, impactful outreach, and dialogues that underscored its role in shaping narratives, upholding the truth, and championing the rights of women, children, and the voiceless in society.

According to her, “These engagements have reinforced our mission to empower women journalists and promote ethical, inclusive journalism in Nigeria.

“Tonight’s event, however, is not for advertisement, but to recognise women who have silently added great value—directly or indirectly—to our society today.

“Currently in Ondo State, it is reported that over 500 divorce cases are pending in court. Despite the odds, Ondo NAWOJ has carefully selected this group of women—wives of highly successful men—who are all at the forefront of efforts to improve our society.

“As we appreciate the efforts of their husbands, we also honour the strength of their wives, who stand tall in their own right, often unseen, yet making significant contributions.

“In a society where the spotlight often shines only on the achievements of men, we must not overlook the emotional labour, spiritual support, and strategic thinking that many women bring into the family structure.

“These women are not just wives; they are pillars, counsellors, and in many cases, the silent architects of stability and success.

“Your stories may never make the headlines, but they are inscribed in the hearts of those you influence—your children, your communities, and your husbands.

“Your daily sacrifices, your wisdom in conflict resolution, and your firm moral compass are worthy of emulation.

“These awards are not merely plaques or citations; they are a recognition of resilience—the kind of resilience that chooses prayer over complaint, support over blame, and courage over despair.

“The women we honour today embody dignity, humility, and unwavering dedication to both family and societal growth.”

The women recognised were Mrs Chinyelu Ifeanyin, Mrs Adesola Ibiloye, Mrs Abigail Afolabi, and Mrs Titilayo Adeleye.

Others include Mrs Jumoke Abegunde, Mrs Fehitola Akinmade, Mrs Oluwatosin Adegite, and Mrs Omobola Oyedele.

Ondo NUJ Chairman, Leke Adegbite, congratulated Ondo NAWOJ on the successes recorded under Gbadamosi’s leadership.
