Journalists welfare, my priority, new NUJ President assures

The new President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) elect, Comrade Alhasan Yahaya, has promised to improve the welfare of journalists in Nigeria as soon as he received his certificate of return.

The certificate was presented after the election during the 8th National Triennial Delegate Conference held at the Sam Mbakwe Hall in Owerri, Imo State.

In his acceptance speech, the new NUJ president, who hails from Gombe State, expressed appreciation to all the journalists for their support and pledged his commitment to the welfare of members.

Alhasan Yahaya promised to collaborate closely with relevant stakeholders and uphold the professionalism of the journalism profession.

He also decorated the immediate past NUJ president, Dr. Chris Isiguzo, as a fellow of the NUJ National Council.

The chairman of the electoral committee, Mr. Mike Iheagwu, who announced the result, declared Yahaya the winner after he garnered 436 votes, against his runner-up, Dele Atunbi, who received 97 votes, while the third contestant, Garba Mohammed, had 39 votes, respectively.
