The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Ilesa chapter, Osun State has called on the government to support them.
The members while enumerating some of the challenges confronting its members urged the governments ease some of the challenges of the affected people
In their separate remarks when JONAPWD commemorated this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities at CSDP Hall in Muroko area of Ilesa, the leaders of the association called on the caretaker chairmen of the four councils in the ancient town to assist them with walking sticks, wheelchairs and buses.
The leaders including Ilesa West JONAPWD Chairman, the Secretary, Grace Kolawole, Chairperson of Ilesa East JONAPWD, Olatoye Elizabeth and former PRO of the association in the state, Funmilayo Abdullahi urged the council leaders to channel their requests to the state governor, Ademola Adeleke and also join in making life better for them.
“We want our Caretaker chairmen in Ilesa township and our amiable Governor to rehabilitate our meeting venue at Dental Health Center Muroko Road, Ilesa. Our members also need empowerment and palliatives; we need employment opportunities, scholarships, mobility aids such as wheelchairs, crutches, walking sticks, reading aid, medical materials.
“We also beg our governments to assist us with an association bus to aid our movement. Our Special School needs renovation. We passionately appeal to governments to work on these problems facing people with disabilities.
“Our other problems are social exclusion, discrimination, irrelevancy in the community and stigmatization,” they said.
