Hypertension, diabetes: FG screens 300,000 Ondo residents

The Federal Government has commenced screening of about 300,000 Ondo State residents for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including hypertension and diabetes, under its “Project 10 Million” initiative.

The screening programme, themed Know Your Number, Control Your Number, aims to reach 10 million Nigerians across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Mrs Bisi Lawani, Media Director of the Ondo State Ministry of Health, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Akure.

She said the exercise would run from October 28 to November 3 across all general hospitals and select primary healthcare centres in the 203 wards of Ondo State.

Lawani said the campaign prioritises community outreach to ensure vulnerable populations gain equitable access to essential healthcare services, ultimately enhancing the quality of life in the state.

“The Federal Government’s Project 10 Million is an extensive public health initiative designed to tackle NCDs, especially hypertension and diabetes, through early detection,” she said.

Lawani urged residents to visit the Ministry of Health at Alagbaka, general hospitals, or any primary healthcare centre in their locality to participate in the free screening.

“This is an opportunity for residents across the 18 local government areas to check their health status without incurring any cost.

“We encourage all to take advantage of it,” she added.
