FRSC Warns Motorists Against Crashes in the Rainy Season
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ondo State Command, has said that faulty wipers, lighting systems, and bad brakes can cause crashes, especially during the rainy season.
Dr Samuel Ibitoye, FRSC State Sector Commander, stated this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Akure on Wednesday.
Ibitoye noted that inadequate maintenance of vehicle components could lead to serious fatalities involving drivers, passengers, and other road users.
According to him, the rainy season requires special driving skills and careful use of the highways.
“As the rain has started, it behoves us to ensure that our vehicles are in perfect condition before embarking on any journey.
“If vehicle components are not in good condition, it becomes a problem and affects vehicle performance, which could lead to serious crashes on the highway.
“Drivers must ensure that their vehicle lighting systems are functional, the wipers are working properly, the mirrors are intact, and the braking system is in perfect condition,” he said.
The FRSC commander added that the command had been engaging in public enlightenment and advocacy to ensure zero crashes during the rainy season.
Ibitoye also said that FRSC personnel would be constantly on the road to caution motorists and that the command would conduct free vehicle safety checks to prevent unnecessary crashes.
“So, what we are saying is that people should do the needful. They should not overspeed, drive dangerously, or neglect the condition of their vehicles.
“And for young people who are 18 years and above, they should not allow youthful exuberance to dictate how they drive on the roads.
“They should observe traffic rules and regulations and should not engage in any form of driving competition, as their actions or inactions could lead to accidents,” Ibitoye said.
He therefore called on personnel to be more committed, professional, and dedicated to their duties by ensuring people drive to stay alive.
