The Restoration For The Dignity Of Womanhood (ROTDOW), a Non Governmental Organisation has indicated the need to appoint female as the state Deputy Governor.
The CEO of the organization, Mrs. Olabisi Omolona gave the expression in a conversation with the media on Tuesday in Akure.
Omolona who observed that the state is blessed with capable women who are 100 percent fit for the position, appealed to the State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to consider women’s agitation for a female deputy governor.
“Going by the statistics, out of the total population of 3,441,024, the population of women is 1,679,761.
“This suggests that women make up about 49% of the population of Ondo State, and of that figure, not a single woman have been found worthy of this representation.”
“,Aside this, we also demand sustainable development, not forgetting that gender balanced society is a developed society.
“If we are to join the Committee of Developed Nations, we also need to join the global community to be committed to the representation of women at all levels of governance”, she decried.
This, she argued should be exercised now as she called on Governor Aiyedatiwa to increase women’s participation in government to at least 35% of all governmental positions.
“It is our earnest desire that you pull your weight behind a female candidature in the forthcoming governorship election by increasing the proportion of women in leadership roles to help the current administration get closer to reaching SDG goal 5 to achieve gender equality and empower all women and the girls.
According to her, the coalition of women-led NGOs will continue to fight for gender mainstreaming across all levels of governance until government makes a conscious decision to increase and maintain the representation of women in elective and appointive positions across all tiers of governance and policy making platforms.
She however congratulated him and wished him a successful tenure in office.
