Drought: Muslims Pray for Rainfall as Crops Wither in Osun
By John Dike
Hundreds of Muslims in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, converged at the Osogbo Central Eid prayer ground on Sunday August 8, 2024 to pray for rain as crops in various communities across the thirty Local Government Areas of the state continue to wither.
The special prayer, led by the Grand Imam and Chairman of the League of Imams and Alfas in Osun State, Sheikh Musa Animashaun, was intended to seek God’s intervention in the ongoing drought.

Reports indicate that various crops, including maize, yam, and millet, are drying up, with farmers expressing concern over potential losses.
Religious leaders who attended the prayer session urged people to revisit their relationship with God, explaining that sins being committed were major contributing factors to the drought.
They stressed the importance of fearing Allah, noting that this was a prerequisite for God to listen to their prayers and provide the much-needed rain.

Speaking, Sheikh Animashaun emphasized the importance of seeking Allah’s guidance and forgiveness during challenging times.
He called on the residents of the state to seek forgiveness and blessings from God.
Sheikh Animashaun stated, “Whenever there is a threat of drought, we are enjoined by Allah (SWT) through His Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) to return to Him and seek His guidance and forgiveness.”
