Muslims Begin Fasting Today

Muslims across Nigeria have begun the 30-day period of fasting, prayers, and devotion today, Saturday, 1 March 2025.

The fasting commenced following the official declaration of the first day of the holy month by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, yesterday.

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, has officially declared today, Saturday, 1 March 2025, as the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Speaking from his palace on Friday evening, the Sultan announced that the crescent moon had been sighted earlier in the day, Friday, 28 February, corresponding to the 29th day of Sha’ban.

He said the widespread reports of moon sightings from various regions of the country had been verified and accepted by the council, confirming the commencement of Ramadan 1446.

The Sultan urged all Muslims to dedicate the holy month to prayers, seeking Allah’s blessings and guidance for the nation and its leaders.

He also encouraged acts of charity, emphasising the importance of supporting the less privileged so that they too can partake in the fasting period.

According to him, reports from Islamic leaders across the country confirmed the moon’s appearance, marking the official beginning of Ramadan fasting on Saturday
