MMPN Flags Off Career Development Programme in Schools, Engages Muslim College Students

The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) has launched a career development programme in schools across Ondo State.

The Ondo State chapter of the organisation initiated this programme at the Muslim College, Oke-Aro, Akure, the State capital, in last Thursday November 7th, 2024.

The focus of the event was to educate students about career opportunities in journalism and media, highlighting the potential and versatility of the profession.

Leading the session, development journalist Saheed Ibrahim provided insights into the dynamic nature of journalism. He emphasized its multidisciplinary scope, pointing out that journalism is not limited to reporting alone but extends to various fields, including investigative reporting, media consultancy, public relations, and fact-checking.

Ibrahim encouraged the students to explore the profession, noting its significant impact on shaping public opinion and driving societal change.

“Journalism is a powerful tool for advocacy and storytelling. It allows you to amplify the voices of the marginalized and bring attention to underreported issues in society,” Ibrahim stated.

He also shared practical tips for building a successful career, urging the students to set clear goals through a vision board. “Having a vision board keeps you focused and motivated. It is essential to be diligent in your studies, surround yourself with like-minded peers, and remain dedicated to your personal and professional growth,” he added.

The Project Lead, Alhaja Fatima Muraina, highlighted the importance of educational and career development, advising the students to remain committed to their academic pursuits. She noted that the future of any community lies in the hands of its youth and emphasized the need for the students to take their studies seriously.

“Your dedication to your education today will determine your success tomorrow. Equip yourselves with knowledge, and do not shy away from opportunities for growth,” she advised.

In his remarks, Mr. Jubril Bada, Chairman of the Ondo State Chapter of MMPN, also encouraged the students to consider careers in journalism and media. He noted that the industry offers vast opportunities for individuals passionate about telling stories and making an impact.

“Journalism is a noble profession that serves as the watchdog of society. It requires a strong sense of responsibility, curiosity, and a desire to inform and educate the public,” Bada remarked.

The interactive session concluded with a Q&A segment, where students engaged with the speakers, asking questions about the challenges and opportunities in the journalism field. The event is part of MMPN’s ongoing efforts to inspire and mentor young students, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed for a successful future in the media industry.

The programme received positive feedback from the students, who expressed gratitude for the insights shared and the motivation to pursue their career goals.
