The Ondo State Council for Islamic Affairs (ODSCIA) has described the recent appointments made by the state Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as starting on a wrong footing.
This was contained in a statement titled ” ODSCIA FAULTS NON-INCLUSION OF MUSLIMS IN KEY APPOINTMENTS BY AIYEDATIWA” which was jointly signed by the state Chairman and General Secretary of the council, Alhaji Akinpelumi Abibullahi and Alhaji Atere O. Nasirullahi which was made available to the media.
The statement expressed disappointment that the first appointments into the key positions were not made to favour the muslims but the christians alone.
It said : “the news of the key appointments by Mr. Governor, His Excellency Hon. Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa is with consternation and deep sense of exclusion in the political arithmetics of our Sunshine State.”
“The first set of appointments of Mr Governor showed that His Excellency has started on a wrong footing. “
It stated that the Muslims in the State which has a large percentage of voter’s population in Ondo State could not comprehend the criteria for selecting people into political positions which does not recognise the numbers of group of people or the religious balance in the State.
It observed that the Muslims in the State who are law abiding had been tolerating such bracing neglect for a long time where their silence seems to be taken for granted.
The Council called on Mr. Governor to right the wrongs by ensuring that there is equity and fairness in the subsequent political appointments which will give adequate representations to all religious faiths.
ODSCIA called on Muslims in the State to continue to be law-abiding while it await the positive response to the urgent call.
