Stakeholders Advocate Qualitative Representation to Tackle Governance Challenges

 

Stakeholders have called for qualitative representation and active citizen engagement as key strategies for overcoming the challenges of poor governance in the country.

The call was made at “Circuit’ programme organised by the Nuj Osrc /Orange FM Chapel held at the OSRC TV Complex in Orita-Obele, Akure.

The programme which brought together media professionals, policy advocates, and other critical stakeholders deliberated on the theme, “Scaling the Hurdles of Bad Governance through Qualitative Representation.”

Participants at the forum examined persistent issues of ineffective leadership and stressed the need for citizens to demand greater transparency and accountability from public office holders.

Director General of OSRC Media Group, Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson, highlighted the crucial role of the media in shaping governance narratives.

He noted that journalists must remain steadfast in upholding truth, objectivity, and the principles of good governance.

Speaking on the initiative, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), OSRC/Orange FM Chapel, Odunayo Sawyer, explained that The Circuit platform was established to promote constructive dialogue on governance, accountability, and national development.

Guest Speaker, Alexander Ajipe, emphasized the importance of competence, integrity, and inclusiveness in leadership.

He noted that qualitative representation extends beyond holding political office, stressing that I leaders must deliver tangible value, remain accountable to the people, and implement policies that reflect citizens’ real needs.

The forum also featured interactive sessions where participants exchanged ideas on strengthening democratic institutions and closing the gap between leaders and the governed.
Stakeholders unanimously agreed that sustained dialogue, active citizen participation, and responsible leadership are essential to addressing governance challenges and building a more transparent and accountable system.
