Akorede Urges Spiritual Commitment
…as FOMWAN hosts maiden Post-Ramadan Lecture in Akure
The Chief Imam of Akure Empire, Alhaji Yayi Akorede, has called on Muslim women to deepen their commitment to Islamic values and raise their children in accordance with Islamic teachings.
He made the call while speaking at the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) Annual Post-Ramadan Lecture held in Akure.
The lecture, which brought together Muslim women from across the state, was aimed at reflecting on the lessons of Ramadan and encouraging continued spiritual growth among women beyond the holy month.
In his address, Alhaji Akorede commended FOMWAN for organising the event and for their contributions during Ramadan.
He emphasised the importance of proper Islamic upbringing for children, urging mothers to take the lead in shaping a morally sound generation.
“I urge you to teach your children in the Islamic way. Patronise Muslim schools so that your children can be knowledgeable Islamically,” he said.
The Chief Imam also stressed the importance of harmony in the home, advising women to remain respectful and supportive of their husbands, while also caring for themselves and avoiding undue stress.
FOMWAN State President, Alhaja Omikunle Medinat, said the lecture served as a platform for self-reflection and spiritual rejuvenation.
“This programme is to celebrate ourselves after Ramadan, and my advice is that we should all strive to abide by the teachings shared in today’s lecture,” she said.
Guest Lecturer, Alhaji Engineer Junaid Yunus Olalekan, described Ramadan as a spiritual school where Muslims learn vital lessons, especially about discipline, compassion, and spiritual growth.
“Muslim women should be empowered spiritually and socially. They are the administrators and leaders of the home front. They must not only pay lip service to Islam but live it out in their daily lives,” he stated.
He urged women to be the “shock absorbers” of society, promoting peace, education, and moral values.
Speaking at the event, the Assistant Zonal Coordinator for Southwest 2, Alhaja Idayat Jimoh, emphasised the relevance of the lecture to FOMWAN’s goals.
“The Ramadan Lecture is part of our ongoing efforts to empower Muslim women. Ramadan, as a pillar of Islam, offers immense spiritual benefits. This post-Ramadan session is to remind us of our activities during the holy month and how to continue living by its values,” she said.
She further highlighted the critical role of women in society and the need for their empowerment on multiple fronts.
“Women are the backbone of families and communities. We must be empowered morally, spiritually, financially, and educationally. Today’s lecture is a reminder to fear Almighty Allah and uphold His commands both during and after Ramadan,” she added.
Also speaking, the immediate past Ameerah of FOMWAN, Alhaja Aminat Akinpelumi, described the programme as enlightening and impactful.
“The lecturer did justice to the topic, and it taught us what to do before, during, and after Ramadan. I urge our sisters to hold firmly to the rope of Almighty Allah and share the message with others who could not attend,” she said.
