Agency, celebrates persons with disabilities on International Day

As the world marks the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Agency for Welfare of Persons with Disabilities has celebrated the contributions and potential of persons with disabilities in society.

The Ondo State Chairman of the Agency for Welfare of Persons with Disabilities, Princess Folashade Arise Comfort, celebrated persons with disabilities through a message issued and personally signed, which was made available to the media.

She stated that the world celebrates persons with disabilities every December 3rd, and that the theme for the 2024 celebration is “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.”

The message, which was released in the early hours of Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024, said: “This day is an opportunity to raise awareness, promote understanding, and advocate for the rights and well-being of people with disabilities.

“On this day, it is crucial to reflect on the progress that has been made in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, while also recognizing the work that still needs to be done. We must strive to create a society that is inclusive, accessible, and respectful of the rights and dignity of all individuals, regardless of their abilities.

“I encourage you to continue to raise your voices, share your experiences, and advocate for the changes you want to see in your communities. Your perspectives and insights are invaluable, and it is essential that your voices are heard in decision-making processes that affect your lives.

“Let us also recognize the importance of creating supportive environments that allow persons with disabilities to thrive. This includes promoting accessibility in infrastructure, transportation, and public spaces, as well as ensuring that educational and employment opportunities are accessible and inclusive.

“Today, let us reaffirm our commitment to building a society where the rights and dignity of all individuals are upheld. Let us work together to break down barriers and create a world that embraces diversity and inclusion. Together, we can build a brighter and more inclusive future for persons with disabilities.”

Princess Arise expressed her deep respect and admiration for the strength and resilience of Ondo State’s persons with disabilities. She urged them to continue to work together to create a world where everyone can reach their full potential, regardless of their abilities.
