..as Shiphrah, Puah inaugurates new executives
Traditional Birth Attendants, TBAs popularly known as “Agbebiye”, has reassured their commitment to better service delivery and cooperation to ensure that there is zero matanal mortality rate in Ondo state and Nigeria in general.
The newly sworn in Ondo state President of Shiphrah and puah Agbebiye of Nigeria inc . Revd Mother Yemisi Margaret Adesanmi gave the assurance in an interview with the media in Akure, Ondo State.
“What we are doing is that we do train our midwives. We have been training them and we are still training them that they should not allow pregnant women to stay long in their custody.
“They should refer pregnant women because government has ordered us to be referring pregnant women to the hospitals.
” A pregnant woman should not labour more than eight hours in the midwife’s custody before she’s referred to the hospital. It is not good for a pregnant woman to die in the midwife’s custody,”
Itemizing the causes of maternal mortality, Adesanmi said is largely on the pregnant women, many of who do not take care of themselves properly in attending to anti natal and taking the necessary vaccination.
She said they advise their pregnant patience to equally register in the hospital and encourage them on completing the necessary vaccinations as well as taken proper diet .
Speaking on her, contribution during her years of service as the state President, Adesanmi state that she will implore the assistance of doctors to further train the TBAs according to government directives.
“We will also attend meetings regularly and educate ourselves more on proper care of the pregnant women referring them and ensuring that they register with the hospital .
She called on pregnant women to get themselves registered as early as when they conceive and called on traditional birth attendants to ensure that they see the pregnant women hospital card before accepting them.
Quoting the book of Exodus 1vs 15, she said Adesanmi was where their registered name drawn for which expressed their role of helping mothers in giving birth to their children to prevent mortality of the mother and child.
