MMPN urges students to discover talents for sustainable careers
Students of Al-Birr Secondary School, Oke-Odu in Akure South Local Government area of Ondo State have been encouraged to focus on the discovery of their natural talents and nurturing them into self-sustaining careers.
The State Chairman of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria, (MMPN), Mr. Jubril Bada.gave the advice during a career talk presentation on the theme “Choosing a Career with Purpose” held at the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) school at Al-Birr Secondary school recently.
Bada emphasised that true career success begins with self-discovery.
He urged students to look inward and identify their strengths, interests, and passions as the foundation for building a meaningful and sustainable future.
“Allah has given every person unique talents for discovery.
“It is your responsibility is to discover those gifts and develop them into something beneficial—not just for yourself, but for society.”
Bada explained that not all students are destined for the same professional paths, noting that success is not limited to conventional careers such as medicine or law. Instead, he encouraged students to embrace diverse opportunities in areas where their abilities naturally align, including technology, entrepreneurship, creative industries, and vocational skills.
Central to his message was the idea that talent alone is not enough. He stressed the importance of education, discipline, and continuous learning in transforming natural abilities into viable careers.
According to him, students must remain committed to their studies, avoid distractions, and seek knowledge as a lifelong pursuit.
“A talent without development cannot sustain you,” he warned. “But when you combine your skills with knowledge and the right attitude, you can build a career that supports you and serves others.”he said
The MMPN chairman also highlighted the role of intention (niyyah) in career development, reminding students that aligning their ambitions with positive values—such as earning lawful income and contributing to society—elevates their work into an act of worship.
He further advised students to uphold strong moral character as they grow, stressing that honesty, discipline, and integrity are essential qualities for long-term success.
He cautioned against shortcuts, noting that sustainable careers are built on consistency and ethical conduct.
Bada concluded by urging the students to take responsibility for their future, reminding them that the journey toward a fulfilling career begins with the choices they make today.
He encouraged them to remain focused, trust in Allah, and continuously strive for self-improvement.
The session ended on an inspiring note, with students motivated to explore their talents and develop them into careers that will not only sustain them financially but also make a positive impact on society.
In a brief remark, the Principal of Al-Birr, Mallam Isiaka Ladis, re-emphasised the need for students to understand their potential and build on it to achieve a successful career.
He recounted the predicament of one of their students, who later discovered his talent in the arts. The student subsequently enrolled in an art class and is now a lawyer working at the Federal Ministry in Abuja.
