SWS begins 2025 work plan with a road walk.
… Sensitises market women

The StandUp for Women Society (SWS) has begun its 2025 work plan with a road walk to sensitise the people about its yearly activities. The Ondo State chapter marked the celebration by storming Isikan Market in Akure to sensitise the traders about the organisation.

Speaking with the market women leaders at Isikan Market, Phase One and Two, the State Chairperson, Alhaja Rafat Mohmoh, advocated for women’s rights and against any form of violence, harassment, victimisation, gender-based discrimination, and more. She stated that the association helps in women’s liberation to ensure they have a better living within society and to seek justice when necessary, ensuring that women contribute to the development of society.

She encouraged women to live up to expectations, be good pillars and managers of their homes, especially given the economic crises happening worldwide. She stressed the importance of women building strong homes, emphasising that the development of children is a key issue that will help reposition the country, as any change starts at home.

The Vice-Chairperson of SWS, Lady Princess Oreoluwa Agbayewa, advised the women to always speak out and call the attention of women’s organisations when unjustly treated, so they can fight for justice and make life more bearable for women.

“Those facing challenges should not hesitate to inform the appropriate authorities and involve SWS to get the necessary solutions and justice,” she expressed.

In their separate reactions, the market women leaders at Isikan Phase 2 (Plastic Market), Chief Mrs Modupe Obayanju, and the Market Woman General for Osikan Market, Chief Mrs Bolarinwa Temudayo, expressed happiness and satisfaction that the association had visited them with words of encouragement.

Chief Mrs Modupe Obayanju said they would partner with the association and would always invite them to their meetings to sensitise the women on issues of development to help equip the market women in combating the various challenges they face.

Chief Mrs Bolarinwa Temudayo expressed her satisfaction with the visit, saying that women are among the most vulnerable groups, facing all kinds of humiliations in society. She specifically appreciated and prayed for the founder of SWS and hoped the association would achieve all its objectives to better the lives of women. She called on women facing various challenges to speak out so that they could be liberated from the obstacles hindering their success.
