Ekungba Tasks FOMWAN on Ensuring Inclusiveness as PWD Elegberinbon , Others honoured

Her disability was never a barrier to achieving outstanding success, but rather could best be described as “ability out of disability.”

Hajia Rekiyat Elegberinbon, a person with disability from Owo, was recently celebrated as the Amuludun of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Owo chapter. She challenged able-bodied individuals on their contributions to the development of society, the state, and the nation in particular.

mammoth crowd  turned out in large numbers to celebrate her success story, including renowned politician and High Chief Jamiu Ekungba, the Ekun Odo Agbara of Owo Kingdom, and the Baba Adinni of Owo Land, who is also a patron of FOMWAN.

Speaking at the occasion, Chief Ekungba advised FOMWAN to retrace its steps to the purpose for which it was formed by the founding members over 40 years ago. He said Muslims have suffered neglect in inclusiveness and that there was a need to liberate the Muslim faithful. This, according to him, is why FOMWAN was established over 40 years ago.

He encouraged FOMWAN to develop strategies on how society can be influenced to include Muslim faithful in government activities, making the desired changes to develop the country.

He also urged the Owo chapter to develop what he called the blueprint of their projects for easy presentation to investors for assistance.

The Imam of Khaleel Fawehinmi’s Government House Mosque, Alhaji Yunus Anola, in his lecture presentation, described Islam as not for lazy people but for the brave.

He appreciated FOMWAN for their steadfastness and contributions to society. He said God gave women priority in their drive to propagate Islam, citing the example of how Khadijah, the wife of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), supported his clarion call.

While describing women as the honey and salt of life, Anola affirmed that Prophet Muhammad was the creator of women’s groups like FOMWAN, because they wanted a revolution during his time, which later led to the formation of associations.

Hajia Rekiyat Elegberinbon, who spoke in an interview, expressed joy and happiness at the honor done to her, saying that God never let her down despite all kinds of insults and jests aimed at her for her continuous trust in Him and her selfless service to FOMWAN activities.

A photographer in Owo, who simply gave his name as Alfa Suyuti, described Elegberinbon has an entertainer who is valued by all.

“She respects everyone and she is humble. She is not proud. We prayed that God continue to protect and sustain her.

He said Nigerians should try to help her and urged the state government to sponsor her as a beneficiary intending pilgrims for the   performance of  this year’s holy pilgrimage.

“People like this should be assisted. They are planning to go to Mecca but they don’t have the capacity, the government should assist them, he plead

Among those honoured were Alhaja Salamatu Quadri as Otun Iyasuna FOMWAN, Owo, along with many others.
