Appointments: Ondo Muslim Welfare Board dissociates self from communique by League of Imams & Alfas

The Ondo State Muslim Welfare Board has dissociated itself from a communique purportedly issued by the League of Imams and Alfas in the state.

This was contained in a statement issued and signed by Secretary to the Board, Alhaji Omoniyi Mutiu, a copy of which was made available to the Media in Akure today.

It added that neither the Board Chairman, Alhaji Alhaji Sikrullah Adams Chandy nor any members of staff of the Board sat at the meeting held on 14th February, 2024.

The statement also quoted Alhaji Omoniyi Mutiu as saying; “We want to hereby state that both the Political head and government workers in the Board are solidly behind this administration and we are undoubtedly committed to its success.

The statement further reads; “We wish to state unequivocally that neither the board chairman, Alhaji Sikrullah Adams Chandy nor any of members of staff of the Board sat at the meeting .

“We wish to state that the privilege accorded the League of Imams & Alfas was to honour them being the custodian of Islam in Ondo state and perhaps, not the first time of according them such opportunity.

“Permit us to quickly state at this juncture that the permission sought from the Board was to discuss the forthcoming Ramadan fasting .

“And contrary to the communique , the resolution of the Imams & Alfas according to some participants was to lobby the state government to consider Muslim Politicians and Technocrats for appointments and never to confront or take any contrary step(s).

“Let us also reiterate that the leadership of the Muslim Welfare Board is not unaware of regulations and requirements guiding its operations as an Agency of Government, thus, no any intention to aid any anti-government activities.

“We regret any inconveniences that this development might have caused the state government”, the statement concluded.
