Tinubu Targets National Model Status for Ondo

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Ondo State of the Federal Government’s partnership in driving inclusive growth, strengthening infrastructure and transforming the state into a model of national development.

The President gave the assurance during the grand finale of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ondo State, held on Tuesday at the Akure Township Stadium.

Tinubu, who was represented at the occasion by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, urged the people of the state to embrace a bold and ambitious vision that would reposition Ondo as a leading example of development and inclusive growth in Nigeria.

“As we celebrate this golden jubilee, let us set our sights on a bold and ambitious vision for Ondo State. Let us work together to make this state a model for national progress, a centre of innovation and education, a hub of agricultural and technological excellence, and a place where every citizen can achieve their full potential,” he said.

The President noted that Ondo State possesses the talent, resources and spirit required to lead by example, stressing that the Federal Government would continue to partner with the state in driving sustainable development.

Reflecting on the state’s journey over the past five decades, Tinubu said Ondo State was created to empower its people, harness local talent and bring governance closer to communities, adding that the state has distinguished itself in education, public service, culture and economic contribution.

“From Akure to Owo, from Ondo to Ikare, and from Okitipupa to the riverine communities of Ilaje, the people of this state have consistently demonstrated diligence, innovation and unity.

“You have produced leaders, educators, professionals and citizens whose contributions have shaped Nigeria’s growth and stability,” he stated.

He described the golden jubilee as both a celebration of the past and a vision for the future, identifying agriculture, education, technology, tourism and the blue economy as critical sectors for driving prosperity in the state.

According to him, the Federal Government, under the Renewed Hope Agenda, remains committed to supporting Ondo State in improving infrastructure, strengthening security and empowering communities to ensure inclusive development.

Tinubu also charged the youths of the state to see themselves as architects of the next 50 years, urging them to harness their energy, creativity and innovation to propel Ondo State to greater heights.

“Fifty years is a significant milestone, but it is also a call to action. Let us deepen unity, strengthen democracy and expand opportunities for all citizens.

“As we celebrate today, let us commit to ensuring that the next fifty years surpass the first in prosperity, innovation, peace and inclusiveness,” he added.

In his address, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa described the anniversary as a celebration of vision, resilience and collective progress, noting that Ondo State, which began as an idea rooted in hope, has become a living reality.

“Today, it is a living, breathing reality. And tomorrow, by the grace of God and the unity of our people, Ondo State shall stand even taller as a beacon of excellence, stability and progress among the comity of states in our great country,” the governor said.

Aiyedatiwa added that an award night had been organised to honour frontline visionaries and icons for their immense contributions to the foundation and development of the state, urging residents to celebrate with gratitude, reflect with humility and move forward with renewed resolve.

The colourful ceremony was attended by the Minister of Youth Development, Hon. Ayodele Wisdom Olawande; the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji; former Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko; traditional rulers, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the APC National Vice Chairman (South-West), Dr Isaac Kekemeke; and other top political figures.
