Stop Sultan’s dethronement, Muslim Ummah urges Tinubu

The Muslim Ummah has called on President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Alhaji Ahmed Bola Tinubu, to halt any plans Governor Ahmad Aliyu and his government have that could lead to diminishing the power or dethronement of His Eminence Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III CFR of Sokoto.

The call was made through a statement personally signed by Amir Sirajudeen Abdulazeez Folayemi, a Former General Secretary of the Ondo State Council for Islamic Affairs and the 34th MSSN National President. The statement, titled “An Appeal to Gov. Ahmad Aliyu,” urged Governor Ahmad Aliyu and his administration to preserve the revered seat of the Sultan and avoid any political maneuvers that could diminish the influence and authority of Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III CFR, potentially paving the way for his rumored dethronement.

“This political maneuvering could bring back the dark days of Northern and Southern Muslim dichotomy in our nation. It would not benefit Muslims in this country and would especially harm the good people of Sokoto State.”

The statement also noted, “Isn’t it clear that Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s government is following the path laid by Umar Ganduje, which brought Kano into national headlines? Umar Ganduje revised the Kano Emirate laws, leading to the removal of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Emir of Kano. Governor Abba Yusuf attempted unsuccessfully to remove Ado Bayero and reinstate SLS using the same template.”

Furthermore, it criticized Ahmad Aliyu, stating, “Governor Ahmad Aliyu is following the Kano script while disregarding the inevitable consequences, thus insulting the intelligence of Nigerians and, particularly, the Muslim Ummah. What audacity.”

“His Excellency Ahmad Aliyu and his government should remember that Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III CFR is not just the Sultan of Sokoto but the leader of over 150 million Muslims in this country.”

“In the history of Sokoto, no Sultan has united Muslims in this country as Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III CFR has done. His actions have not only elevated the Sultanate’s status but have made Sokoto the Mecca of Nigerian Muslim leaders from all geopolitical zones. Prominent figures in the country visit Sokoto to pay homage to this esteemed Muslim leader and the Sokoto State government.”

“Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III CFR has made the Sultanate a celebrated seat, a pride, and a point of reference for the Nigerian Muslim Ummah. He has successfully bridged the Northern and Southern Muslim divide, allowing Muslims from all corners of the country to proudly proclaim, ‘We have a leader.'”

According to the statement, dethroning this great personality would not serve the best interests of Sokoto State, its government, or its people. Above all, it would greatly harm and dishonor the Muslim Ummah of this country.

The Muslim Ummah expects the Sokoto State government, under Governor Ahmad Aliyu, to further strengthen and uphold the power and influence of His Eminence Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III CFR and the Sultanate.

It was stated that Governor Ahmad Aliyu should build on the legacies of past administrations in empowering Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III CFR and truly make him a Seriki of the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria.
