Ondo FOMWAN BOA Sensitise Prospective Executives on Leadership Training
The Ondo State chapter of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has sensitised prospective executives in Odigbo Local Government on leadership responsibilities ahead of their inauguration.
The training session held at Odigbo Central mosque in Odigbo Local government was organised by the Board of Advisers (BOA), focused on unity, accountability and adherence to the association’s constitution as key pillars for effective leadership.
Alhaja Faoziat Adeola Aliu, former Amirah of Ondo and member of the Board of Advisory Committee, delivered a lecture on protocol and leadership. She urged the incoming executives to work in unity, avoid segregation and support the newly elected Amirah.
She emphasised that leaders must not operate in isolation, noting that teamwork and mutual respect are essential for the growth and progress of FOMWAN in Odigbo Local Government.
The immediate past State Amirah and member of the Board of Advisors, Alhaja Aminat Akinpelumi, presented a lecture on the technical aspects of the association.
She stressed the importance of strictly complying with the constitution of FOMWAN while maintaining cordial relationships with religious leaders in the area.
She referenced the Chief Imam of Araromi-Obu Kingdom, who doubles as Chairman of the League of Imams in Odigbo Local Government, and the Chief Imam of Odigbo Local Government, stating that their support would remain vital as long as the executives carry them along.
Highlighting accountability, she raised concerns over association funds yet to be recovered from some individuals, describing transparency as non-negotiable in leadership.
In her presentation, Alhaja Idayat Jimoh, a former Amirah and Board of Advisory member, who is the Deputy Coordinator of Southwest 11 spoke on FOMWAN “at a glance,” tracing its establishment in 1985 and its vision of raising Muslim women as role models in society.
She explained that the association’s mission centres on knowledge acquisition to enable Muslim women contribute positively at home and in the wider society, in line with the Qur’an and the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad.
She also outlined the organisational structure, including the Board of Trustees at the national level, the Board of Advisers at the state level, and executives at state and local government levels.
The Chairman of the Community Development and Humanitarian Committee and a BOA member, Alhaja Rafat Abiodun Momoh, defined leadership and discussed the qualities, types and skills required of good leaders.
She charged the prospective executives to distinguish themselves and make meaningful contributions to community development in Ondo State and Nigeria at large.
In her remarks, the State Amirah, Alhaja Medinat Omikunle, described leadership in Islam as an amanah — a sacred trust before Almighty Allah. She urged the incoming executives to accept leadership with sincerity and a strong intention to serve, praying for divine guidance and success in their tenure.
