Illegal mining: Col. Saka lauds Bunmi Tunji-Ojo over Marshals’ inauguration

A retired Army officer now an Agro industrialist, Col. F.S Saka (rtd), has applauded the Minister of Interior, Hon (Dr) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo over the inauguration of a special security Marshal team within the NSCDC Corps to tackle insecurity and illegal mining activities in the country.

He described the move as a right step in the right direction considering the senseless killings of villagers in Plateau state recently.

It would be recalled, that the federal government, during the 2024 International Civil Defence Day, launched “Mining Marshals” for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to checkmate illegal mining of solid minerals across the country.

The Marshals would man the over 1,175 illegal mining sites which have been identified to curtail the activities of illegal miners.

He however implored the Government to equip the Marshals with effective communication gadgets, like body Camera and 4G Walkie-talkie.

The retired Army Officer called on the minister to introduce such to assist farmers who have been sent out of their various farms by herdsmen who neither kidnap them for ransom or kill them.

The dastardly act, has however contributed immensely into the current food shortage witnessed across the country, as farmers could no longer go to their farms for fear of being kidnapped.

He advised the minister to as a matter of importance, introduce community security volunteers in all nooks and crannies of the country to assist the Marshal to make their goals achievable.

Col. Saka called on the National Assembly to expedite action on the bill for the creation of state police, and called on the Government to always make use of retired Army, police and other security experts in combating the security menace bedeviling the nation.
