Flush Out Famers Killers from the Forests to Attain Food Security – OSACA Appeals to Government
The Ondo State Agricultural Commodities Association (OSACA) has raised concerns over the incessant kidnapping, abduction, and killing of farmers, which has forced many to flee for their lives.
The association warned that this crisis poses a serious threat to food security.
In a statement issued after an emergency meeting held in Akure, the Ondo State capital, OSACA expressed deep worry and distress over the persistent attacks on farmers, which have prevented them from working on their farms to produce food.
The statement, personally signed by the state chairman of the association, Chief Fred Adejo, emphasised that these killings not only affect farmers but also pose a looming danger to food security.
It further stated that a meeting had been scheduled with the Senior Special Assistant on Hausa-Fulani Matters, the Miyetti Allah group, and the Seriki of Shasha Market to find a lasting solution to the menace.
While acknowledging the government’s efforts so far in addressing the situation, the association lamented that the violence remains alarmingly high.
OSACA pleaded with the government to urgently intervene and ensure farmers can safely return to their farms, as food security and sustainability depend on it.
The farmers, who issued a “Save Our Soul” appeal in the statement, reaffirmed that, we are in the farming season and if this menace is not quickly addressed, it will be difficult to guarantee food security in the State.
However, they passionately urged the government to treat the matter as an emergency, warning that if no action is taken, many families forced out of their farms will be faced with serious famine, which they described as a “secondary form of killing
