Mission of impact: Ondo Wazobia Widows kickstart activities
The Wazobia Widows, a Non-Governmental Organization, are on a mission to enhance the dignity and social well-being of widows through advocacy, education, training & development programmes and networking.
This is the message from Binta Adejoke Aminu, Founder and President of the Nationwide Wazobia Widows organization, for widows in their respective states, including Ondo.
Under the leadership of Alhaja Sherifat Salaudeen, the organization swung into action to attract members from across the 18 local government areas of the state, impacting and enriching the lives of widows.
They recently organized training sessions on liquid soap making and Izal, distributing samples to interested members who can produce them for economic improvement or as alternative sources of income.
The Ondo State chapter has also engaged in an ongoing agricultural training programme organized by the Agbeladun Empowerments NGO, securing free training for farmers and interested individuals in tomato, pepper, and onion cultivation across the state’s three senatorial districts.
Wazobia Widows in Ondo State participated actively in the training sessions: in the Central senatorial district held in Akure, the Southern senatorial district held in Ilaje at Igbokoda in Okitipupa Local Government Area last weekend, with hopes that members from the Northern senatorial district will join the training scheduled for Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Ikare.
During these sessions, members received tomato seedlings for transplanting to alleviate the current hardship caused by high product costs, essential for putting food on the tables of individuals.
Those who received training shared their success stories, while many others appealed for continuous training to benefit more people.
Commenting on these initiatives, State Coordinator, Alhaja Sherifat Salaudeen emphasized that the state will continue to leverage such opportunities, organizing further in-house training for its members to ensure every widow has a sustainable livelihood, thereby alleviating poverty among them and fostering self-sufficiency.
