The Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has vowed to bring back lost glory of Education in the state by ensuring that public schools compete favourably with private schools.
He promised that his administration would do everything possible to reposition education in Osun and make students of Public Schools compete favourably with those in Private Schools.
The Governor lamented the situation where Students learn under leaking roofs, stressing that he will make sure all dilapidated buildings are rebuilt for Students to learn in a conducive environment.
Adeleke spoke while receiving the report of Education summit presented by the chairman of the committee, Professor Oyesoji Aremu held at the governor’s office, Abere in Osogbo.
Prof Aremu, while presenting the report, noted that people within and outside the state showed interest, saying the committee received 92 memorandums, 2,149 responses and 52 discussants were present and contributed greatly to the success of the summit.
According to him, the education summit was recently organised by the state to see ways to reposition the education sector of the state, and revealed that the last time the state had the best WAEC result was in 2018.
He said, “When we started, we looked at the last five years, excluding 2023, results of WAEC and NECO in Osun state, the best we could lay claim to was 2018 when Osun was number 7.
Your Excellency, in the following year 2019, Osun was number 14. In 2020, Osun was the number 34. In 2022, Osun was number 36.
“To make it unpalatable, the UNICEF report showed that Osun State is leading in the Southwest with out-of-school children.
Prof Aremu who noted that people within and outside the state showed interest, said the committee received 92 memorandums, 2,149 responses and 52 discussants were present and contributed greatly to the success of the summit.
However, the Governor commended the committee for doing a good job assuring that all the recommendations would be implemented .
