TMC, ADSN Urge Couples to Build Ideal Muslim Homes Through Faith, Counselling
Muslim couples have been urged to build their homes on the enduring principles of Islam, faith, mutual understanding and proper marriage counselling, which were described as essential to achieving peaceful and stable families.
The call was made at a couples’ seminar organised by The Muslim Congress (TMC), Ondo State, in collaboration with the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria (ADSN), Akure Branch, held at the ADSN Central Mosque, Araromi, Akure, at the weekend.
The programme, themed “Establishing an Ideal Muslim Home: Muslim Couples on Call,” brought together Islamic scholars, community leaders and Muslim families to deliberate on practical approaches to strengthening marriages and parenting.
Delivering the keynote lecture, the Deputy Registrar of Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State, Alhaji Odelade Keilani Oyeniyi, urged intending and married couples to embrace proper marriage counselling and develop a sound understanding of their religious obligations before entering into marriage.
He observed that many people venture into marriage without adequate preparation, describing premarital counselling as indispensable for anyone seeking a successful marital life. According to him, proper counselling equips intending couples with the knowledge and skills required to navigate marital challenges and build enduring relationships.
Oyeniyi stressed that successful marriages require husbands and wives to understand the teachings of Islam, observe the dos and don’ts of family life, and cultivate the fear of Allah in all their dealings. He added that counsellors should possess both Islamic and Western educational backgrounds to combine religious teachings effectively with an understanding of modern societal realities and cultural dynamics.
He further advised Muslims to seek guidance from qualified Muslim marriage counsellors, while Christians should consult competent Christian counsellors, saying proper counselling would enable intending couples to understand the responsibilities and expectations of marriage before making the lifelong commitment.
The Chairman of the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Akure Branch, Alhaji Tajudeen Adepoju, who earlier welcomed participants to the occasion, described the session as highly enlightening and impactful, noting that it provided practical guidance on the roles and responsibilities of husbands, wives and children.
He said the lecture highlighted attitudes that strengthen family harmony as well as behaviours capable of destroying marriages, urging participants to apply the lessons by taking proper care of their families, avoiding actions that could destabilise their homes, and continually seeking knowledge of Islamic family values.
Adepoju emphasised that mutual understanding between husband and wife remains the foundation of every successful Muslim home and called on couples to continue to respect, support and pray for one another.
In his address, the Coordinator (Waali) of TMC, Ondo State, Mallam Abdul-Majeed Abiodun Adebayo, said the seminar was organised to equip Muslim couples with the knowledge and practical skills needed to establish God-fearing homes capable of withstanding contemporary social challenges.
According to him, the programme was designed to deepen participants’ understanding of the foundations of an ideal Muslim family, encourage the sharing of experiences among couples, strengthen parenting skills—particularly in addressing the challenges affecting younger generations—and promote peaceful homes where every family member faithfully discharges his or her responsibilities.
Adebayo explained that an ideal Muslim home should not be viewed as one without disagreements, but as one firmly rooted in Islamic teachings, justice, sincerity, cooperation, continuous learning and responsible parenting.
He urged couples to cultivate love, trust, empathy, tolerance, forgiveness and healthy communication through regular family interactions, Qur’an and Hadith studies, family outings, and other activities that strengthen marital bonds.
Drawing from Qur’an Chapter 30, Verse 21, he identified Sakinah (tranquillity), Mawaddah (love) and Rahmah (mercy) as the three pillars of a successful marriage, urging families to place Allah at the centre of their homes through regular prayers, supplications and acts of worship. He also encouraged husbands and wives to serve one another selflessly, following the exemplary lifestyle of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Adebayo expressed appreciation to the guest lecturer, the leadership of the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Akure Branch, the corporate sponsor, Lotus Bank, members of the planning committee, media partners and all participants for contributing to the success of the seminar. He prayed for Allah’s blessings upon all marriages, asking for peace, love, mercy and steadfastness in Muslim homes, while seeking righteous spouses for those yet to marry and strength for families facing marital challenges.
A highlight of the event was a practical demonstration of healthy spousal interaction through organised question-and-answer sessions involving participating couples.
