FOMWAN inaugurates Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo executives
…says leadership rooted in accountability, Integrity
Muslim women leaders have been reminded that true leadership is not defined by authority alone, but by moral responsibility, service, and accountability before both God and humanity.
A lecturer at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Barrister Olamide Muhammed, gave this reminder while speaking at a FOMWAN leadership training organised for newly inaugurated executive members in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Sunday.
Muhammed, who spoke on “Leadership and Accountability in Islam”, described leadership as the ability to influence and guide people towards a common goal, emphasising that effective leadership largely depends on leadership style.
According to her, leaders must know when to take decisive action and when to consult others, always keeping the wellbeing of their followers in view.
She itemised several leadership styles, including autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire, transformational, and servant leadership, noting that no single approach fits all situations.
She also listed adaptability, communication, and sound decision-making as essential elements of successful leadership.
The two Chief Imams present at the occasion—Imam of Oke Igbo, Alhaji Oyewale Isiaka, and the Chief Imam of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Kingdom, Sheikh Alhaji Abdududaniyan Salami among many others, applauded FOMWAN for its steadfastness and resilience in empowering Muslim women and children.
They prayed for God to continue to strengthen the association.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Ondo State Amirah, Alhaja Medinat Omikunle, stated that the association remains the umbrella body of all Muslim women’s organisations and operates in accordance with its constitution.
She explained that the association works across several thematic areas and has empowered beneficiaries through scholarships, as well as secured the release of three inmates—two men and one woman—from a correctional facility, among other achievements.
The inauguration coincided with World Hijab Day, having been rescheduled about three times.
Also speaking, Alfa Mutiu Abubakar of the Tafsir Islamic Council of Islamic Affairs, Ondo State, urged FOMWAN to intensify its efforts in the propagation of Islam across the state.
A teacher at the Muslim Primary School, Ile-Oluji, Mr Akinlosi Oluwadamilare Samuel, appreciated FOMWAN for its generosity towards the school through gifts and donations, while praying for continued progress for the association.
A visitor from Oke Igbo, Alfa Oyewale Isiaka, thanked the participants and particularly commended the state leadership of FOMWAN for their excellent performance.
He urged leaders to uphold good virtues worthy of emulation and prayed for God’s sustenance and strength for greater achievements.
Also speaking, a participant, Alfa Azeez Olayinka, who disclosed that he brought the association from Akure to Ile-Oluji, expressed satisfaction with the programme, stating that he was not disappointed, as the association is performing excellently well.
