Agbeladun engages widows , provides free training on tomato, pepper, and onion production
In order to ensure food security and improve livelihoods by reducing the high cost of food items, Agbeladun Agricultural Empowerment has announced its intention to involve widows in food production.
Agbeladun Agricultural Empowerment, a non-governmental organization, made this announcement in a press statement signed by its State Coordinator, Mr. Franklin Fadoju Olusola, which was made available to the media.
In the statement, the Coordinator called for the support and collaboration of relevant stakeholders to empower women, particularly widows who are most vulnerable during this critical period when soup ingredients are beyond the reach of the average Nigerian.
It was disclosed that interested farmers would be trained freely in tomato, pepper, and onion production in the three senatorial districts, beginning with the central district in Akure on July 13th, followed by the southern district in Odigbo on July 20th and the northern senatorial district in Ikare on July 27th,
According to the statement, these efforts aim to complement the state government’s agricultural activities and those of other farmer bodies such as OSACA and Farmers Congress, to eliminate hunger and encourage individuals to engage in agriculture.
The statement titled “Agbeladun trains farmers, seeks collaboration with relevant organizations” said, “We have already collaborated with FADAMA and implemented projects during the N-CARE project, where approximately 70 individuals received 1400 points of laying birds. About 20 members were each given 4 goats, while another 20 received 3000 seedlings with chemicals, free of charge.”
“We have also sought collaboration with L-Press and have profiled close to 1000 members across the state to benefit from L-Press World Bank projects. The L-Press program covers poultry, sheep, goats, and piggery, free of charge.”
While noting that arrangements have been completed to involve widows, the statement called on all interested farmers and individuals to register for the training, emphasizing that only those who participate in the training will be empowered.
